Time off, working hours and pocket money

Your work can be in the mornings and afternoons, but this depends on your host family’s daily routine.
Once you arrived in Australia, you should schedule your daily and weekly duties together with your host family.
Please keep in mind ➪ Au Pairs are supposed to take care of the children.

  • Working Hours

Your working hours and your timetable will also depend on your host family’s needs.
Usually you work between 25 and 30 hours a week, babysittig hours are included in these working hours.
Dont´t forget to conclude a contract!

  • Time off

You have at least 1 day off a week and this day should be at least once a month on Sunday.
Moreover, Au Pairs will get 1 week of paid holiday every 6 months of stay or obtain a completion bonus. Make sure that you will have the time to visit an English course.

  • Pocket Money

In Australia, Au Pairs are entitled to be paid 150 – 250 AUS $ per week.
The best and easiest way for families to pay and Au Pairs to receive their money on time is by opening a bank account in Australia for the Au Pair so the family can transfer the money.

  • Household Duties

The Au Pair is asked to fulfill minor household duties such as doing the children’s laundry, cleaning up the children’s bedroom(s), emptying the dishwasher and helping with some minor shopping for the children. Make sure your free time, needs and wishes will be respected!
